Orhan Seyfi Ari
A writer former pupil of teacher Orhan Ari wrote: He didn't become a teacher; was born a teacher -sometimes a man is a great school and a great school one man. School pupils liked teacher Ari. The Turkish Cypriots named two streets after teacher Ari -in Nicosia and Lysi (new Loudrijina): Orhan Seyfi Ari street. The Education Minister TRNC called teacher Ari Teacher of Teachers. Politicians, writers, poets attended teacher Ari's funeral; his teaching was so popular, school pupils, former students carried flowers. Writers wrote newspaper articles about teacher Ari. He is remembered in magazine and official research and bigrophical publications and other books -in Turkish, Greek, English. Poets published poems about the teacher of teachers Seyfi Orhan Ari . Teacher Ari and his school teaching was most popular with school kids; another columnist and former pupil of teacher Ari wrote: We had a teacher, Ari -there was teching- you have to love people, and teach! Pupils and students liked teacher Ari. Also other teachers liked teacher Ari: To an author and former teaching colleague of teacher Ari, he was, in verse, the universe! And school parents liked teacher Ari and commomerated teacher Ari's popularizing teaching as unforgettable services to education. People liked teacher Ari; a writer wrote how fond memories of teacher Orhan Seyfi Ari brought to mind teachers who were like parents to school kids. He helped them. Teacher Ari was born on 12 December 1918, in Lapithiou, Paphos, Cyprus. Most didn't go school at all, education was unpopular. His father was a prayer-leader and school teacher. His fathers ethics, liberal ideas in teaching and education inspired teacher Ari. Teacher Orhan Seyfi Ari was educated in Nicosia in secondary school, and lycee. His teacching diploma was from the Cpyriotes' British Teachers College in Morphou. He also read agriculture. While teaching, teacher Ari, informally studied also divinity, theology, philosophy. He knew Ottoman and modern Turkish, Greek, English, reasonable Arabic and Latin. Teacher Ari debated social issues in his club. He wrote articles. He is remembered also for his ethics, sincerety, honesty, trustworthines, wit. His poems are mystical and philosophical. He popularised education, especially secondary school education when it was not compulsory. Teacher Ari helped to have new, bigger, good schools. His interests included helping to protect the orphans. He defended liberties. Teacher Ari motivated people, pupils. He helped cultural organisations in England and in Australia. He helped researchers, writers, poets. Teacher Ari was lecturer of agriculture in Morphou teaching at the Rural Agricultural School which he helped establish, elementary school teacher and headmaster in Arodez. He taught Greek, English, ethics in secondary schools, grammar schools, institutes. In the British colony of Cyprus he was secondary school principal in paphos and Loudrijina secondary schools, and teacher in grammar and high school also as housemaster in the English School. In the Republic of Cyprus's Turkish Communal Chamber's education department his teaching career continued as secondary school teacher in Nicosia. Teacher Ari retired from teaching in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in 1979, died in 1992.
The Teacher of Teachers Orhan Seyfi cared about his pupils and students. He believed that teachers and head teachers should try to understand school pupils: In a poem he says that also he, also adults, when kids, were sometimes regarded as "Satan's tools" and not always with saintly deeds. Teacher Ari with his school-teaching has been hailed as a great teacher by people and pupils.
