Orhan Seyfi Ari was a Cypriot teacher. The Turkish Cypriotes named two streets after him -in Nicosia, in Loudrijina/Lysi: Orhan Seyfi Ari street. The Minister of Education TRNC called him The Teacher of Teachers. Statesmen, writers, poets were at his funeral; school kids, pupils with flowers. Writers wrote articles about the Teacher of Teachers. Poets wrote poems about him -in Turkish, Greek, and English. He died on 17 December 1992. He was very popular; school kids, pupils, people liked him. He helped them. Teacher Ari was born on 12 December 1918, in Lapithiou, Paphos, Cyprus. His father was a prayer-leader and teacher. His liberal ideas inspired teacher of teachers Orhan Seyfi Ari. Orhan Seyfi Ari was educated in Nicosia Secondary School, and Nicosia High School. His teaching diploma was from the Cpyriotes' British Teachers College in Morphou. He studied agriculture. Informally he studied divinity, theology, philosophy. He knew Arabic and Latin. He debated in his club. He wrote articles. His poems are mystical, philosophical. He is in resarch and biographical works. Teacher Ari helped have new, good schools. He helped protect the orphans. He defended liberties. He motivated people, school kids, pupils; his wife Suzan Ari helped. He helped cultural organisations in England, Australia. He helped research, writers, poets. Teacher Orhan Seyfi Ari taught at secondary, grammar/high schools, institutes. He taught in Morphou at tthe Rural Agricultural School, was head teacher at Arodez elementary school. He was teacher at Nicosia and in Paphos Secondary Schools. He was teacher of English and Greek and secondary school principal in Paphos and Loudrijina, and teacher and housemaster at the English School. Later he taught English, religion & ethics at Turkish Cypriot schools. In retirement he worked also as a cleric. Teacher Ari retired in 1979, died 1992. They wrote about him: His mark on the history of education, history of teaching, progress of Cyprus is not a small one.
