DIFFERENT GROUPS OF PEOPLE IN THE PHILIPPNES

REGION V

The Bicol Region or Region V (also known as Bicolandia) is one of the 17 regions of the Philippines. Bicol (also spelled Bikol) is composed of four provinces in the Bicol Peninsula, the southeastern end of Luzon island, and two island-provinces adjacent to the peninsula. Its regional center is Legazpi City in Albay province.

The Bicolanos are the fifth-largest Filipino ethnolinguistic group. Bicolanos live in the southeastern peninsula of Luzon, now containing the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon. Many Bicolanos also live near in the province of Quezon.

The people of this ethnicity chiefly reside within the country's Bicol Region. Linguistically, there are several Bicol dialects. However, they all seem to derive from the same mother tongue. It is noted though that the dialects spoken of here are somewhat fragmented and have borrowings from other languages and dialects. There are more than three and a half million speakers of the Bicolano languages in the country.
