That's My Take Archive

Mid November, 1999- After airing of "The Initiative"
My thoughts on the subject of Buffy and Angel

OK, now. The first thing I have to talk about is Riley. I'm loving him! I was right about the whole him-being-one-of-the-army-guys thing, so let me further first rant on that. It's so very perfect. Because they have the same lifestyle, only Buffy's been ordained. I also think Buffy could be a powerfyl allay in the fight. But, I worry that perhaps the way the writers will take it is that Buffy & Riley don't know about eachother. That they might actually be having like fights to the deaths. I also worry because I suspect Riley's a Senior & perhaps he's going to graduate at the end of the year & then he'll be gone. I like Riley a lot. Good guy for Buffy to be with, not that she needs to be with anyone. On to what happened the other week with Oz. Now, I feel that Oz had a point, a choice. I don't think it was werewolf Oz telling Veruca to come & be in his cage that night. it was human Oz's sex drive & I blame Oz & don't feel that sorry for him.

About Veruca. I don't know, maybe I just like these evil girls, but I loved Veruca! I was sorry to see her go. She was cool! & I almost felt like that part at the end where she went after Willow was out of character, Veruca was too laid back for that. & also I didn't like Oz treating her all bad when Willow found them together. It's like you made the concious decision to do a bad, don't blame the other person for tempting you, because when your tempted, it's up to you to stop it. Hate a harsh analogy, but you don't tell a rape victim it's their fault because they tempted the rapist. I just thought Veruca felt lonely & isolated, she found this rare person she thought she could be with; it's not her fault he had a girlfriend. I was annoyed that Willow just balled after everything went down. Willow's tougher than that! She's sensitive, but she's gotten tough. & I also don't like her crying all the time over Oz's bad because it's creeded to a message I feel the season is carrying that women are weak.

Anyway, about Spike. What a great idea! The whole he can't fed thing! That's so brilliant! Kuddos to whoever thought that up. What a way to domesticate him, & make him part of the cast & eventually an allay, most likely, without making the character less of what the character has been. He can still have all the characteristics of Spike without killing & being an enemy. That scene with Willow was so hilarious. The scene with Harmony & Xander: I could not stop laughing. On to Xander & Giles, I'm afraid they're being blended out of the scene. I wonder if they'll decide to get jobs or, in Xander's case, attend the college. I hope so. Final thoughts are of the past, I'd like to know a little bit about Faith. I want to know if she's in the hospital still or if she's died, if they've moved her somewhere. With Faith, I feel her punishment is her current state. I just hope eventually Eliza Dushku wises up & realizes she could be a vital part of the cast is she choose to do "Buffy" again.
