Buffy's "Spiral"

5-11-01: I had some interesting thoughts upon rewatching this episode for a third time. One being that the situation now is a lot like I hypothesized in theories- I said the Key would be used & Buffy would be lost, mentally, & that someone would have to bring her out of it & that that's where Big Brother Xander comes in. Well, we know now what the Key is, & we know it can't be used, at least in full (if you believe the Knights, but I'll get into that later), but the situation where Dawn is taken & Buffy's caught in shock is a similar circumstance to what I've been talking about in all my theories. Willow's the one with the power to reach into Buffy's mind & "wake" her up (HELLO "RESTLESS" {'Buffy, wake up. You have to wake up, Buffy, please.'}), but it's gonna be Xander, probably put into Buffy's mind through Willow's power, that will break her out of her cationic state so she can fight for Dawn, fight for the land, as going along with my theory to do with the Robert Frost poem 'The Gift Outright'. Now, let me go into what the Knight leader told Buffy about The Key. They don't know the whole story. They can't. Because The Key has some good purpose. The writers have said from the beginning of the season, they've been saying that Dawn is something that can be used for good or evil. There has to be some good to using The Key. Now, how does The Key get used is a question. Can she be used for a good purpose & still go about living her life as Buffy's sister. My point is, the Knights don't know the whole story & I think a great injustice would be done to the universe if Dawn were killed, destroyed. Maybe The Key is used for good if a goodhearted person uses it & evil if an evil-hearted person uses it. I pretty much think that Buffy's going to think she has to kill Dawn, but since the Knights, I believe, don't know the good purpose of The Key, she'll find out she doesn't have to. In fact, since the Key will always be in Dawn, I expect Buffy will have to use of The Key for the good purpose, so that Dawn can then live her life. Ben probably will die. I don't want him to, it's sad. I envision Ben telling Dawn to live her life. Cause he wants to live his so much. At first, watching this episode, I thought how irresponsible of Ben it was to be held up with the Scooby gang when Glory could come out at any time, but then I thought more & I figured, it's logical. Glory prevented him from becoming a doctor, when it's all he's ever wanted in his whole life. That was a chance to be a doctor. Also, he couldn't know that Glory knew who the Key was. The minions didn't know. No one knew. She found out. She ran after it. She got hit by a truck, her energy depleted, & she changed into Ben (HEY, MAYBE HURTING HER & PUTTING HER BODY THROUGH SOMETHING TOUGH LIKE, YA KNOW, GETTING HIT BY A TRUCK, DEPLETES HER ENERGY ENOUGH SO THAT SHE CHANGES TO BEN- of course, maybe it was just time). She didn't have time to tell the minions she knew who the Key was. It was irresponsible to be in the same place with the Key, regardless of whether Glory knew who it was (he did know she knew it was in human form), but, his whole thing is that he has a right to live his life. & to not go do something just because of Glory goes against his whole value that it's his to live. Guys, what did I say about the whole "Restless" connection between those who spoke without moving their lips & those who have died or gotten injured? First Joyce, then Tara got brain sucked, now Giles got injured- The First Slayer was next. But, then again, Tara may die (that might mean Giles might die from the wound, although if any of the core four would die this finale, I'd think it would be Xander) because I don't know what this other purpose for the crazy people is. I did note, while watching this episode, & then I forgot about it when I initially wrote up That's My Take, that the minion was probably angry at Ben for summoning the Qweller to kill the crazy people because of this other unknown purpose for the crazy people. Ben probably doesn't know anything about that, & it probably, actually, I'm certain, has to do with 7-3-0 & the ritual to use The Key. We'll see.

5-8-01: Okay, it took me a couple rewatches, but I'm completely clear on it. Now, Glory was a HellGod with three other HellGods, we know this. What we learned tonight was that Glory became so evil that she was feared by the other two Gods. In fear that she would overtake them, they started a war & won just barely. Then they sent her to our dimension. Ben was created (unknown how long ago that was) as a human prison for Glory. She wasn't supposed to be able to come out of him, but she was too strong to contain- so she comes out at times, but can't stay long as her powers aren't that strong in our reality. She feeds on brains, but, of course, Ben doesn't have to because he's human. Other then the off comment Ben said about Glory getting her key "back", as near as I can figure, it sounds like the Key is this holy grail, of sorts. It is ancient; who created it is unknown. What it does is- those gates that keep our dimension from bleeding into The Host's or the dimension Angel got sent to as Hell or Glory's dimension- the Key destroys those gates so that all the dimensions melt into one. All the bad, good, & inbetween (which most are, & which our's is, no doubt) into one. Chaos would ensue this new unidimension forever. The Monks wanted to use the Key "for the powers of light" (what good can come from melding dimensions- perhaps crossing dimensions is where the possible good comes from); they wanted to protect it. But most want to destroy it, so that it can't be used. The Knights of Byzantium are that way. Now that they know it's Dawn, they want to kill Dawn because killing Dawn is the same thing as destroying the Key (although, logic is she'll die eventually; we won't dwell on that). Now, Ben just wants to live a normal life. Help people by being a doctor. Although the logic flaw concept that he was Glory's brother was expressed in earlier episodes- it was a red herring- he's not (only siblings in the sense that they share a body as siblings would share a home). He's just a human with this demon inside him. But he's not like every other human. He's a lot like Dawn. Created, not real (another logic flaw, why wouldn't those "outside reality" not recognize him as not real like they did with Dawn; we won't dwell on it). Ben really is a good guy. You see, if he kills Dawn, he won't have to worry about suddenly one day not existing. He can live his life. Not to mention save the universe. But if Glory uses Dawn to open those gates & get back to her dimension (well, now, all dimensions to reign as God over the whole universe), as a minion pointed out, there's no more Ben. So he's risking the whole universe & himself by not killing Dawn. He's a really great guy. & what sucks is, as we know now, & as I've been formulating- Glory's unkillable. She's unfightable. She's a God. But if one were to kill Ben, it would kill Glory (think of it as "The Replacement"'s 2 Xanders thing). So, can Buffy do that? & to an innocent? Just as Ben cannot kill Dawn, can Buffy kill Ben? & does she have the right to say that Ben's non-real self is any lesser than Dawn's non-real self? Because, folks, that's what it comes down to. Kill Ben or kill Dawn. Either one of them will save the universe. But, of course, there are the other factors. One being that Dawn is Buffy's sister. Buffy can't kill her. & the other is that Glory will always be in Ben, somewhere. Then again, the Key will always be in Dawn. So there's always gonna be a risk in allowing either Ben or Dawn to live. & then there is the last factor, Ben might not be available to kill. Of course, now Dawn isn't, but Buffy will find them both eventually when she gets out of her shock. & Ben might be Glory, unkillable, & Dawn might just be right there.

But, to Love is to save Dawn. Therein, Buffy will find her gift. Her gift of death. Death for Ben? Oh, crap it, that confusion is setting in again. I liked it when I knew what I was talking about like above. Last thought, wouldn't the slayer part of Buffy want the chaos universe? More to fight. More to kill. Last comment, what's this "taste of your heart" thing with the crazy people? This whole story seems so familiar to me. Anyone recognize these storylines in some other TV show, movie, or book? Drop me a line.

Angel's "Over The Rainbow"

All the stuff I said last week still holds. Last week was really the start of a 4-part finale. Did you guys see Fred?
