Buffy- "I Was Made to Love You" This was supposed to be the Britney Spears episode. Britney as a robot girl? Okay. I don't think those things are metal, but okay... I actually sort a skimmed the closed caption right before I saw this episode. & I was a little perplexed by the: 'mom, mom, mommy' at the end. So then I downloaded the last act & saw Joyce lying on the couch dead. So it wasn't a surprise when I actually saw it. Plus, some tvguide listing site described next week's episode as having to do with them 'losing one of their own' . I was hoping it was Xander, or maybe Buffy, but Joyce... Next week's episode is penned by Joss himself & is supposed to deal with death in a haunting &, maybe, truthful way. I've been dealing with death a lot lately. I had to put my 17 year old cat to sleep Feb. 1st. & I was there for it. & that was harder than I thought it was going to be. & there have been other loses in my life in the past year, both human & animal. & it's the first time I've ever had to deal with death because no one close to me had ever died before a year & a couple months ago. It's a very somber subject. We walk in & out of this world so quickly. I don't think anyone really fathoms how quickly, what a short time it is. But, Buffy's mom's death I bet what it is is a way to take away from Buffy all those things that keep her in the world. & of course, Dawn being her only real, or unreal, family left, could pose a great conflict for her & losing Dawn or having to kill Dawn or squash Dawn in whatever form we all know she will one day become, will take Buffy that much closer to The Primitive, the official name of what I've been calling The First Slayer. There could be another great conflict for Buffy involving killing Ben, because he was there for her when her mom was sick & probably's going to be there for her with her mom's death. Also, Ben, aside from the whole summoning of the crazy-people-killing demon, appears to be a nice guy. He's training to be a doctor, someone that helps people. So, if it is assumed that killing Ben will kill Glory (although, I think Ben would be hard, if not impossible, to kill), then could Buffy do it after he helped her with her mom & is generally a good person? Another thought about Ben is that if he's Glory's brother & he's not able to stay in our reality without some sustenance, & he's cleaning up Glory's mess, then Glory has to make the mess because, in part, of Ben being a drain of her energy. So, if I'm at all correct, it would mean that Ben needs brain to suck (although Glory does it for them both, because it was her mess not theirs)- well, that's not what's important, the important thing is that people are losing their lives as they know it, in part, because of Ben's existence. Him alive, it's unfair, because while he's living, all these other people are losing their lives for his existence. Just thought I'd bring up the Karmic balance. Are they really going to have Spike date a BuffyRobot? So that's the deal with that dumbass mannequin thing? A BuffyRobot is still a dumbass idea. Sorry, I'm just in a bad mood because of... on to "Reprise". Angel- "Reprise" Man, they like Sam Anderson over there, huh? He's appeared on the show twice since his death (he plays Holland), so... God, this episode was so depressing. I really don't even want to watch it again it was so depressing. & my poor Kate. Are they really killing off my Kate? & just when I hoped the writers were going for the whole allies thing. That wasn't right. Poor Kate. & stupid Angel. I cried in this episode. Angel got out of that elevator, looking around him, looking at all the evil around him. My thought was: 'Angel, you have to help them', not Kate or Cordy or Wesley, but people. The lost people. But, instead... & again I bring up my violence toward women issue. Shoving Darla around before... I got no problem with the very graphic sex scene (that was the limit of what the censors would let them do, but just WOW), but the violence was so not-needed. Oh, & for the record, The Source says Angel did NOT lose his soul. Because even though I think Angel is on some level in love with Darla, it's not a pure love, especially not now, & do you think there was anything perfectly happy about that moment? Come on. Wesley, man of sometimes deep insights, coined it: 'Angel lost his soul because he was with Buffy. Do you realize how rare that is? True happiness?' I didn't really talk much about last week's episode, I was ranting about Darla, I think, but that episode had some really important messages. It was a very good concept. Just thought I'd note that. & I just realized they probably did that before they killed off Kate to get it in with Kate. Last thought, Charisma's acting has really gone down hill lately. It's not only a little generic, but also fairly annoying. Past Weeks' Forgotten Thought Something about last week's "Buffy" was that whenever Dru is depicted on "Buffy", she's not cool. They just don't write the character as good, even in the flashback in "Fool for Love", but on "Angel", her rants are so much more well written. The character is just way more likable on "Angel". Where on "Buffy", she's, at times, almost badly written. | |||||||||
