That's My Take Archive October, 1999- after first few episodes of 99-00 season

Well, well. What in interesting time this is. "We sure are living in a Golden Age", we've got "Buffy" & now "Angel". & with this lovely Tuesday night treat comes a lot more Buffy Source thoughts on the Buffy Universe. I want to discuss a bunch of things so this will all be a bit scattered. Willow: I feel she's become a bit too dependent on Oz, he's always watched over her, maybe it's preventing her from growing so I think it will be good if he fades out of the picture. One thought that comes with the knowledge of a Willow/Oz breakup is that none of the relationships on the show have ever worked out, but, it's more realistic to life that way. Writer David Fury who wrote the Season 3 episodes "Choices" & "Helpless" has super impressed me of late (& always). He wrote Angel's 2cd ep "Lonely Hearts" & Buffy's 4th ep "Fear, Itself". Kudos David. Buffy is portrayed too weak this season. As Sarah is getting more frail they need to be empathizing Buffy's strength, instead she's on the floor & badly injuring body parts. I'm not liking it. Xander is too sad. I hope his life turns out to be more. I think he needs to try to get into that College b/c everyone he knows himself by is there. If he can't, maybe he should find a life elsewhere. Giles loosing the tweed. Loving it. Suspected very first Buffy episode they wouldn't keep that very attractive (I'm 18, but I'll still admit Tony Head's a looker) man in those clothes. However, he's always pulled off the tweed, still, Tony Head looks better in casual attire. Riley Finn. Loving him! I just am in awe of the way they're placing him in, so perfect, he's so likable & with Parker. So the right thing to do. No one will accept the first guy after Angel, so to have Buffy sleep with this jerk & have her heart broken, it makes you say "give the girl some happiness in love". Therefore the audience at large is more acceptant of the new love interest, Riley. I think Riley's one of the army-dressed vamp fighters. It's a crazy theory, but I know I'm right. I love that concept, too. He knows about vamps, & he's fighting them. He'll look at Buffy as an allay who can also probably offer him a lot of information & fighting help... then that relationship will turn into more. & you'll want it to, people, you will! I'm sure after Joss is through with the Riley/Buffy storyline we'll have 40 sites dedicated to Marc Blucas (who plays Riley). On Spike, I just don't like him as much as I used to. & I don't have a clear picture of Spike being in Sunnydale working out with the storylines. But, I still have faith. To me, it really seems like James Marsters is back more for Spike's popularity than Spike's necessity to the plot of the season & the show. About Anya, I was right about her being a Cordelia fill in. She's doing some of those tactless comments that would usually be uttered by our Cor. In general about "Buffy" I'm loving it. The format really hasn't changed that much, only circumstances. It has a sort of first season feel to it. We're focusing more on Buffy, Xander, Willow, & Giles. I think it's fresh & different & yet conformably still in "Buffy" format. I have zero doubt that this show can totally survive without Angel or Cordelia, & more plainly without Buffy & Angel. & guys, "Buffy"s still # 1 in my heart, even if "Angel"'s first few episodes did have a bit more put into them than "Buffy"'s season 4 first few episodes, don't completely rule that "Angel" is better than "Buffy" in general b/c I'm betting next season it's gonna be pretty equal. I hope the ratings even out, don't want DB getting an even bigger head (that was terrible I know).
