That's My Take Archive

Mid December- airing of "Into the Woods" & "Reunion"

Buffy- "Into the Woods"

Okay. Okay. Marti, good direction. I liked. No beef. The writing in the really sweetly sentimental scenes- with Xander & Anya at the end, with Xander & Buffy toward the end- was just ON! The story was heart-wrenching & very true, but a tad bit cliche. I've seen it done & I knew before Buffy got to that helicopter that she wasn't going to make it in time. I don't think I've ever seen it that someone's there, but the other person can't hear them, but the whole thing's been done. & that's a little beef. & it goes back to my big beef about the show losing it's originality which really bothers me because that's why I've held it up as the greatest show of all time for many years.
But, I got what they were saying there, that she wasn't there for him, not really, & then she comes around he can't hear her. Yeah. Very sad. I liked Buffy & Riley. OK, I don't like Buffy, but I like Riley & their couplehood. I'm rewatching it now, adding little additions to That's My Take. The directing was really good. Marti, you done good! I will miss Riley, just as I'll miss Spike if they ever write him off. It's not characters that are the problems, they have awesome characters- very thought-out & likable, but their just using 'em wrong. & Like I said a little while ago, maybe there's just too many characters on "Buffy", too many cast members to fit in every episode, that's the real reason Seth Green left he's been saying since then, & it's making the show go downhill. So it's good they've gotten rid of one & hopefully the show will benefit from it.

Do we have to have so many sex scenes on "Buffy"? I mean, they're not even sexy & they offer nothing to the show except a chance for SMG to showoff her massive ego. Riley getting sucked by vampires was sexier. I'm so sick of hearing SMG groan. I mean, it's everywhere, everyday, all the time. She hits a vamp she groans, she kicks she groans, she sighs she groans, she does a sex scene she groans. I guess it bothers me so much because I really dislike SMG. Also, all these little girly groans perpetuate the weak-female myth that "Buffy", my god if anything, should be squashing. I mean, could there be a less likable lead on a show ever? I mean, she' such a dork! I really have grown to hate her within that last year or so. Buffy sucks! & what really sucks is that the character doesn't suck, not even the actress who plays her, it's the actress' MASSIVE EGO that becomes more apparent through her art, something that should never happen, every time I see that show! I'm gonna stop talking about this & get back to the show which her MASSIVE EGO dominates.

Xander & Anya. That was important, to show that Xander loved her because even I didn't know that.
Talking of spoilers. This episode was not the untimely death of Riley, but I see where all the rumors have been coming from. The stuff about Riley turning into a vamp was mixed-up stuff about him & his nocturnal habit, & since he left forever at the end (ding dong the witch is dead {joking, I liked him}) leakers could of thought they would kil him. You know how rumors go. The rumors of late about Spike dying & getting staked was misconstrued stuff about Riley fake-staking him.

Angel- "Reunion"

Woe. Woe!
Okay, looks like I got what I wanted, eh? What did I jokingly say a couple weeks ago about ditching Cordy, Wesley, & Gunn? I didn't really mean it, guys, stop taking my advice! It seems the writers did with a bunch of things- like Kate being an ally. Looks like the girl came around a little too late, because our boy has just gone off the edge & isn't so nice anymore. But, then again, his philosophy goes along with Kate's- she cares about the truly innocent & those lawyers really weren't them. I must admit I was pretty much with Angel, Darla, & Dru on the lawyer-eating part (I say this, even though I'm considering lawschool in a couple years. I'll work for non-profit, good causes.) When Angel broke into the lawfirm and had words with Holland I wanted Angel to do him in & the situation reminded me very much of two incidences of Angel treading on a very thing line between light & dark- when he chopped off Lindsey's hand & when he fish-hooked that assassin posing as the swami.

What Angel did was wrong, even though those lawyers brought it on themselves, it was wrong for Angel to let the girls have 'em. But, then again, it solves a lot of problems, doesn't it? It helps Angel save souls because the Wolfram & Hart people won't be in his way, or causing the problems in the first place. This is the rational, but these aren't Angel's reasons. He's so consumed with Darla & his past that he doesn't care about his mission anymore. What does a soul mean? What do charts & score-keeping mean when he takes off 15 in one night by not helping. He didn't leave that guy who was about to kill himself because he had to go save some lawyers, stop some carnage, he did it for purely selfish reasons. & he didn't save anybody. "That way lies badness." Indeed. & Angel's knee-deep in that path & there's nothing to stop him. The only thing that could had a lovely feast of lawyers not too long ago. He doesn't care about the people that used to mean so much to him, so much that he cut off a guy's hand to save one of them. No. Darla's dreams have brought him over to his demon side, his darkness. &, like Doyle said, if Angel doesn't have a connection to life... it's not looking good. He's only steps away from total black. That's where they're going with this. We've officially crossed the edge.

I must mention that just because the Wolfram & Hart baddies got butchered doesn't mean they didn't get their way. It's just the opposite. The people high up, the people ordering all these things got what they wanted. I don't buy that they just wanted for Angel to be out of their hair for a while, they wanted him "dark". I think the partners have bigger plans for Angel than what Holland, Lindsey, or Lilah knew about. They keep up with these things as we saw in "Blind Date". I don't think they're out just to make a profit, I think they're demons & get off on spawning & perpetuating badness & preventing goodness.
Also, I want to say that I don't think Lindsey's story's over. Darla was cruel to him when she first came back, but I think toward the end she was interested enough to make him a vampire or at least give him a good time while taking him down... no, actually, I think she fed off him & let him live. Either that or she wouldn't feed off him to torment him & let him live. Either way, I'm betting we haven't seen the last of him.

I'm rewatching it now. Dru was the cool Dru. The first half of second season of "Buffy" Dru was awesome! Sick Dru was cool, but then she was restored & she wasn't as cool or as likable. But she's acting like sick Dru more than non-sick Dru. I love her incoherents.
The scene where Darla wakes up was one crazy scene. I loved it. Everybody fighting eachother, bashing around. It was cool. The whole thing with Dru & Darla was crazy. I loved it.
I didn't catch that little line the first time around "& yet somehow I just can't seem to care." Holland said it to Angel about how people died because of what he did & Angel said it to Holland about leaving the lawyers to die. Karmic justice, but definitely Dru's "Daddy." I still don't know what to make of the ending scene. Wesley tells Angel that they're (Wes, Gunn, & Cordy) all that's standing in his way of real darkness & he says "you're right. You're fired." Woe. Was that just not wanting to take orders from his employees or something else. Does Angel want the darkness now? & ya just know they did this before the winter break of reruns to tease us for a few weeks. Joss Whedon, you evil mastermind.

Buffy and Angel

"Angel"- what a great epic we've been taken on this year. I'm thoroughly impressed. & just when I'd lost all reason to get excited about Tuesday nights, they pull me back in. "Buffy" may be going downhill- cliche stories, cliche writing, bad acting, & sub-par storylines- but "Angel"'s holding the fort. Kudos to Whedon & Greenwalt & a Happy New Year!
