That's My Take Archive

Late October, 2000- airing of "Out of My Mind" & "No Place Like Home"/"Untouched" & "Dear Boy"

Buffy, "No Place Like Home":

Great episode. I knew those monks were sending Dawn to Buffy in the trailer. I knew she was 'the key'. There were certain misleading 'hints' thrown off during the last couple episodes, but I never thought that Dawn knew that she wasn't Buffy's sister. I'm liking the concept. For the record, I never disliked it. I still want to know what Dawn's counting down for... What's up with Buffy's Mom has to do with Dawn, though, because the sickness hit her when she realized that Dawn wasn't her daughter last week. Clare Kramer's character, I think her name is going to be Destiny, but I could be wrong, right now we know her as "The Beast"... she was a little reminiscent of Faith in her crazier days. She wasn't evil in the highest sense. Just careless & spoiled. Spike being in love with Buffy. I like it. I know Marti thinks "Buffy"'s outgrown its 'monster of the week' concept, but I don't think it has. I think it's part of "Buffy"'s magic, & when you take it away, what's left mostly is a little soap-operay.

"Out of my Mind" was not that well written. It didn't flow very well. & I wasn't impressed with the story either. & what up with Graham? That was not the Graham we knew last season. Graham was cool & supportive of Riley, not critical & mean. Me not like new Graham. New Graham bad.

Angel, "Dear Boy":

He killed Darla to be with his new love, now that she's out of the picture, who does he come crawling back to? What did I say the first time I saw last season's finale? Angel wasn't killed, just sent, to hell. Darla was killed, so the same rules don't apply. Darla could take the form of her original birth, human, or her rebirth, vampire. It really was a 50/50 thing, but I think human makes the most sense. It does indeed say something about human Darla that she's more or less evil. Not everyone's soul bothers them all that much. Somehow I think Darla's a lost cause. Or maybe I'm just remembering early 1997 where Darla was just the biggest bitch ever- "Darla bit your Mom. Not Angel! Don't kill him!"- Sorry, that was a strange moment for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about (& for those of you who did). I apologize. & how 'bout the big shocker of the week: WESLEY'S HAD SEX???! Who would have thought. I like the karaoke dude. Because he can't tell you things that will lead you on a path when you're at a diverge. & that's so cool. That's why he couldn't tell Angel where to find Darla or anything about it, because anything he would have said would have started Angel down a path. The path to which Angel managed to go down on his own later was probably the bad path, but Angel could have walked away from the situation after talking to the Karaoke dude, as I will now refer to him as, & would have more or less been done with Darla- ignored her, gotten an alarm clock & a security system. & now he's on a path that's probably going to end badly- & it's already gotten pretty bad. I like Kate. If Angel & her can't be allies, how 'bout her being his archenemy? Like every week she shows up & tries to debunk him... but, honestly, I think Kate doesn't have that many shopping days until Christmas, if you know what I mean- her number's up, in my opinion. Juliet Landau certainly had a big role in tonight's episode. You know I only ever liked Drusilla (I'll never learn to spell that , Drucilla, Drusilla, Druscilla- whatever!) anytime except when she was weak & crazy (1st half of season 2, "Buffy") Remember when Angel told Darla that that death of her play 'husband' would haunt her & she said that it wouldn't because he was AN ACTOR? I had a strange appreciation for that one. I wonder if writer Greenwalt does too.

Buffy & Angel

It's been a slow moving couple of weeks, but with these latest episodes, things seem to be shaping up. "No Place Like Home" & "Dear Boy" were a double whammy of great episodes! & just today I was thinking that both show's have lost their edge. Season starts are always slow.
