That's My Take Archive

Early October, 2000- airing of "Real Me"/"Are You Now or Have You Ever Been"

Buffy, "Real Me":

It's midterm week, so I'm not gonna write much. Also the episode summaries won't have "Real Me" or "Are U Now or Have U Ever Been" until after next week's eps air.

A lot of people don't like the whole sister thing. But I welcome this great mystery- Little Miss Muffet. I'm enjoying everything unfold. Plus, the concept of the pain sister to the slayer made for an enjoyable romp in this latest episode. I'm really happy Michelle Trachtenberg was cast instead of Lacey Chambert- that girl could get awfully annoying on POV & she doesn't look a thing like SMG. I can accept that Trachtenberg & Gellar are related- it's the face, the eyes- Lacey Chambert I wouldn't have bought. Plus I've liked Trachtenberg since Harriet the Spy. Trachtenberg's performance was a little akward, but I have to cut her some slack because every actor needs time to grow into a new role. God, let's not even discuss the unaired "Buffy" pilot! I further have to cut the new music guy some slack for similar reasons. Also, I'm a little biased. Every week with Chris Beck was like a creative innovation. He was amazing. & no one can be like him. So I'm not going to talk about how the upbeat, witchy tunes were misued with Harmony. Or how the "My So-Called Life" beat going on when Dawn wrote in her journal was not right. Oh, wait, did I just go in to something? Well, then, I won't discuss the stunts. Promise.

The weird crazy guy coming up to Dawn, saying she was curds & whey?-- "Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet, eating her curds & whey. Down came a spider & sat down beside her & frightened Miss Muffet away." Anyone notice the weird guy saying he was the cat? I know what you immediately think- Miss Kitty Fantastico from "Restless", but also remember that when the 7-3-0 riddle was first uttered, there was a cat in the dream. & Buffy asked Faith who was going to look after it. & then later in the dream there were flashes from the cat to Faith, back to the cat. I don't know what the hell it means, but I got the referances down! One is missed is maybe about the Cat guy saying 'the cat's in the cupboard'. Is that another rhyme?

I don't think Dawn knows that there is anything wrong with her being in that world, but I think Tara does. Notice when Tara & Willow were all smily & then Willow said that Tara was one of the good guys, & Tara's smile dropped? Tara doesn't think she's one of the good guys. & I don't think Dawn's going to end up being one of the good guys. Anyway, you make sense of all this! I gotta get studying- something other than "Buffy" episodes!

Angel, "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been":

Hey, writers, if you really want to explore Angel's character how 'bout giving us some more info on Whisler & the time between Whisler & Sunnydale. & speaking of, what the hell is Angel doing as a homeless guy in '96 when in the 50's he has all this money to live in a hotel- get good blood, good smokes, wear some James Dean clothes, & use a year supply of hair gel a week. & then in the 90's he's all rich. & now in 2000, he has just enough money to get by? Uh huh.
