The Character of the Month is...

Angel.
I think Angel is perhaps the most admirable character to ever come out of the mind of Mr. Joss Whedon. & no, it's got nothing to do with the fact that the character is played by the handsome David Boreanaz. It's that Angel has had so many things in his life happen to make him want to say 'I quit'. To make anyone in his position give in & give up, become evil, stop fighting... & yet Angel continues on with Good. He's got the love of his life, the only love he's ever had & prehaps ever will in his long life, only miles away from him... but he leaves that. He leaves all of that joy to do Good. Angel has had just one huge downfall after another, that's been his whole life: he's made a vampire, which is joy to him, but then he gets a curse that makes him regret all he's done desperately; he finds love, but he can't savor it because he'll become an evil demon again; he does Good, & yet he can't have Good for himself because he'll never feel like he's earned Good because he'll always feel the evil he's done hanging over him. Let's face it, nothing bad that Angel has done is Angel's fault. Nothing. It's the demon, not the man; & yet the man suffers for it, & suffers more, & forever will. & yet he fights. Now that's what I call admirable.
