George Whitefield, Anglican Preacher of the Great Awakening (1714-1770)

George Whitefield, the trailblazer of the Great Awakening, was controversial yet outstanding. An Anglican clergyman and a contemporary of John Wesley, his fame has been outshadowed by Wesley today. But in their days, Whitefield was no less than Wesley in his preaching and labour.
Whitefield was the first Christian leader to span the Atlantic. His latter years were spent in open-air preaching as he was barred from the pulpits of his own denominational clergy. Still, thousands flocked to hear him whenever he preached, and many were saved to the Lord in the process.
