Recomendations & Links:

Have a good roadmap with you! We used the "B&B", which was indispensable!
Do your desk-study before hitting the road! Use at least two good guides, such as the "Footprint", which was very handy.
As per norm, treat the locals with respect, and be humble - you will not regret it!
Have clothing and be prepared for temperatures ranging from sub-zero, through to tropical heat, and have chap-stick and suntan-lotion at the ready!
Most Venezuelan hotels do not offer or include breakfast in the rates - but on the other hand, all over the country, you will find "Panaderias", which are bakeries that also sell fantastic coffee, and are open all day long.
After our experience, avoid the "conventional" ferry between Isla Margarita and Puerto la Cruz. They take more than 4 hours, and do NOT offer minimal comfort - the one we caught took nearly 5 hours, and the convenience store never opened, leaving us hungry and thirsty, apart from the fumes of the diesel engine everywhere, and a virtually inoperant AC. This was quite the contrary of the "Margarita Express", which cut the crossing to under 3 hours in a cat-style ferry, with all the perks and creature-comforts one would expect on a decent ferry, and open restaurant from the beginning to the end.
If using a Brazilian car, remember to only fill "Sin Plumo" (unleaded): all cars sold in Brazil only use unleaded fuel.
