Day 7 - Tabay - Mérida - Tabay:
Fact Sheet: 71 Km
Tabay - Mérida - Tabay
Cabañas Mucuratay - very good Chalet-style "cabaña" (fits 8) aprox. USD 20
This time, we had our breakfast at the Mucuratay, and it was excellent: fresh and hot arepas, honey, jam, and the usual great coffee. Then we went to check out Mérida, where we visited the cathedral, changed some USD for B$, ambled in general terms arround the town centre, and enjoyed the place and people. We tried the Teleférico - the worlds longest and highest cable-car up to the Pico Bolívar - the country's highest mountain, with 5,007m, but unfortunately it was closed for maintenance, as the tourist season was over. We drive down the valley to Ejido, where we have some snacks at another Panaderia, and amble back up to Mérida. On the way past San Rafael de Tabay, we stop at the church, and naturally, the next best Panaderia, to have a well deserved coffee-break! An easy-going day, and dinner at the Mucuratay - again, Ramesh couldn't resist the "Viño de Mora" and "Trucha" (trout, and blackcurrant wine).
Events:
| Unfortunately the "Teleférico" (cable-car) to Pico Bolívar was closed for maintenance. |
| Ramesh took some pictures with local girls, to show how pretty the girls from Mérida are, and tease his friends when he gets back to Brazil. |
