Day 12 - Isla Margarita:
Fact Sheet: 120 Km
Isla Margarita
Hotel Hibiscus - aprox. USD 20/twin
In the morning, we are not well received at first - the manager was very suspicious of us, and was upset that four people stayed in one room. It took him a while to understand, that his employee had allowed our stay, and consented to the four of us sharing one room, until we settled the matter with the manager in the morning. We were then relocated to two seperate rooms, which were also better. After that, he calmed down, and things went smooth. Breakfast in Paraguachí, at the Panaderia, and then, off to Playa El Agua, which is one of the most visited and nicest beaches, facing the open sea. Lunch at the Restaurante El Fortin, in Juan Grieco, a charming fishing village, in the northern part of the island, where the seafood is highly comendable. Then we visit the Fort, on the hill overlooking Juan Grieco and the bay with all the fishing boats and the pelicans, and head on to the other end of the Isla, to the "Restinga", where we catch the sun setting behind us. After that, back to the Panaderia in Paraguachí, and a quick snoop on the internet close to the Panaderia. Luckily, Ivone and Zé are feeling much better, and up to the sightseeing.
Events:
| On the beach, one has to be on the lookout for smart people, out to make some easy money on gullable tourists. They try and offer you a shelter from the sun, table, chairs, etc., and promise to look after your belongings, your car, and will bring you the meals and drinks. Beware, as this is often not the best option - the service can be apalling, and the price considerably higher than what you find elsewhere. The food sold is not usually on the better side of the quality scale. |
