Delavegas was really a good surprise: I felt as if I hadn't been in that bar for ages and since I had never seen them play, it really felt as if I had missed a lot in the meantime. Basically, they're just really good. They have a new album and a great website that features an excellent funny video (by the way, "where are the female rock musicians?" is an interesting question as well as "why don't all our local great bands have such great videos on their website?). I heard someone who's known them for quite some time say it had been one of their best show ever. Next day, le lendemain : Rock'n Bauges Festival : ska & punkI don't even remember the name of the bands, sorry, except the first one, a very strange rock band, a trio nobody should bother about since it's only a new(January)-born side project; these 3 guys from Annecy all play in more serious bands that people really should bother more about like Capush, Mabel Gueule and Les Endives This one, Horace Project (wanna see some photos?) Just forget it! It's nothing important really unless you enjoy singing along stupid lyrics such as "Boogloo!". Remember then : "Boogloo!". Mercredi 19 avril, Wednesday, 19th, April : this website was still in stand-by as it had been for more than a month (why so long is another story) and me sleeping a lot (why so much probably has a bit to do with this other story). Still I made time for live music and late sort of quiet chit chat after parties in dark alleys. For all the international readers here, just in case there were a few, Rosemary, the band that played last that evening for a handful of people (mainly mates) is a punk-grunge trio from Chambry, one of the local bands that tour a bit abroad. What does it take to go that far? That's an interesting question to ponder on, I should do interviews let's see if I can come up with some answers on my own What it takes for a band to tour? Well, probably being in touch with the right people, giving enough time and energy for that sort of things, speaking English and being very willing, beside having the talent required And could these guys go farther? Well, who knows? Why not? maybe it'd take a few ballads though and a bass player who'd stopped scaring away all the softest souls with his punk cap, guitar strap and wristlet all covered with really long pointy nails. And how come a band that's good enough to tour gets to play in front of such a little audience? Well, go ask professional rockers such as the Mother Superior from Los Angeles, they're Henry Rollins musicians, they're quite "big" in the States ; they gave a few shows in France, and for 2 of them the audience was quite depressing they'd probably say (if they had to be polite)... Now, I'd be tempted to get to the same depressing conclusion as a local Annecy band that put for a while on the front page of their website: "rockers are dropping like flies, so drink less". If a sociologist did a poll and if that poll showed that people who consider themselves as "into rock" now tend to prefer downloading the music online and getting fat drinking beers/eating chocolate watching football/any sort of stupid tv show and going only to one or two gigantic expensive Metallica or Placebo show once a year rather than going to intimate cheap shows next door to see some neighbours play once a week, well, if such a poll existed, I wouldn't be surprised. ...
