This prescription is for those with either chronic or acute
joint pain, including low back pain, cold, achy knees or ankles, or swollen,
puffy knees or ankles. It reduces swelling and helps to eliminate pain.
It can also be used by those with stiff shoulders and painful elbows and
wrists.
Formula Ingredients
Cang Zhu (atractylodes lancea rhizome) eliminates swelling
and dampness and stops arthritis pain.
Yi Yi Ren (coix seed) eliminates dampness and swelling, increases joint
flexibility and stoak muscle spasms.
Zhe Tong Pi (zanthoxylum ailanthoides bark) improves lower back pain,
knee pain and eliminate spasms in the arms and legs.
Huang Qin (scutellaria root) clears heat and inflammation.
Han Fang Ji (stephania tetrandra root) opens channels, clears heat and
relieves red, hot, swollen, painful inflammation. Many other herbs in
this formula have warming properties, which possibly may make red inflamed
joints worse.
Qin Jiao (gentiana macrophylla root) stops cramps and pain, relaxes muscles
and tendons, especially in the arms and legs.
Chuang Niu Xi (achyranthes root) strengthens joints, tendons, bones, and
it is beneficial in improving mobility incotill joints, especially for
the lower back and knees.
Gui Zhi (cinnamon twig) improves circulation, warms the channels, driving
out cold that causes pain, and helps move the blood while breaking up
stagnation and dampness. Gui Zhi has the property of directing the warming
effects of the formula to the hands and feet, thus being helpful for those
who have stiff fingers and toes.
Du Huo (angelica pubescens root) improves stiffness and pain of the lower
back, knees and legs.
Jiang Huang (curcuma longa rhizome) reduces pain and inflammation in the
upper back and shoulders.
Ma Huang (ephedra herb) helps be relieving dampness near the surface of
the skin, reducing inflammation and painev
Chuan Wu (aconitum carmichaeli root) and Cao Wu (aconitum kusnezoffi root)
eliminate cold and stop pain, and are therefore very valuable in treating
arthritis conditions in colder people.
Gan Jiang (Dry ginger rhizome) warms digestion and helps to eliminate
pain.
