Hello, friends. I am back.
I've been extremely busy lately, but have found it necessary to try to update this blog more often--so that I am able to provide you with a fresh outlook on today's world. Forgive me for taking a hiatus. It's time to get down and dirty fighting for what's right again.
Last week, I served as a page for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. I was able to see a very unique moment of bipartisanship first-hand.
As you might know, Governor Brad Henry (D-OK) recently vetoed a great piece of pro-life legislation that would have made sure that abortions would not be performed with public tax dollars. The legislation did not make the abortions illegal, persay, but ensured that the citizens of Oklahoma would not be paying for them. Senator James Williamson (R-Jenks), who ran for Governor in 2006, tried to muster enough support to over-ride the Governor's veto.
He fell one vote short.
All hopes of getting this bill passed had nearly faded...until someone devised a plan. What basically happened was that a bill that related to storing chord-blood at the time of birth was brought up before the House by a Democrat Representative. An amendment containing all of the pro-life language (this time including exceptions for rape, incest, and the mother's life) was added onto the bill and ruled germaine by the Speaker. Against all odds, this legislation swept through the House, passed the Senate, and sits on the Governor's desk.
It is obviously a mandate of the legislatures and the people back in their districts that this bill be put into law. Governor Henry, murder is never a choice...against any segment of the population. A society that stifles the call of the voiceless will one day find it has no voice. If you're going to kill babies...at least sign this legislation so we, the taxpayers, don't have to pay for it.
