Coaching Blunder Edition #0: The Pre-Season
photo

Opening Night is tomorrow, and it is time to take a look at the coaching blunders we have seen so far.  It's hard to say what has been the biggest mistake made this year by any of the coaches.  For the most part everyone had a solid draft. Kempe's brother-in-law, Coach Avise, picked LT in the first slot.  So the easy one is out right away.

Coach Youngberg did pick Lamont Jordan.  By his own admission draft night this might be Blunder' fodder.  I've watched a Raider's game with Mike.  They were losing, and to be honest with you he wasn't the best of company.  I don't look forward to the weeks when he is watching the game, the Raiders are losing, and he needs Lamont to get him 12 points.  But as I reflect on this further, I decided the only possible blunder would be to actually watch that game with Youngberg.  That being said, I would gladly watch any other game with Coach Youngberg this season.

Small change Blunder,  out of town coaches not being ready at draft time.  I know everyone that was in Kempe's basement will remember the groans when Tony, on his first pick, attempted to draft a few keepers.  I hope that Tony will be able to join us live next year, as I know he is more organized in person.  Also because he's a hell of alot of fun.

The obvious Blunder, Coach Bothun's entire draft.  Following a day of a little golf and a lot of booze, Scotty shows up at the last minute with a magazine he purchased five minutes before.  Not to mention that he only rolled in with a sixer!  Of Coors Light?  Three major blunders right away.  Then he proceeded to critique the draft of every other team with the signature response, "That's F**kin dumb,"  while meanwhile proceeding to draft the entire Chicago Bear's roster.  This will be an interesting season for the Banikoots, especially since Scott has sworn off being his usual trade happy self.  Hopefully, for Scott's sake, the Bears will have a decent season.  I give him two weeks befor he makes a move. (Scott, call me if you need Mushin.)

In closing, after careful deliberation, I have finally made a decision for Week #0's Coaching Blunder of the Week.  Despite all of Scott's, and everyone elses foul-ups, I have to give the award to:

Myself, for inviting Scott to sit next to me at the draft.  Regardless of warnings from half the league, I ignored all advice and plowed on asking Scott if he would like to sit with me; despite several empty seats in the room.  I don't know what I was thinking, but I only hope that my decision making will improve as the season progresses.

Keep an eye on the Sport's Report, for more news and updates as we move through this new season.  Good Luck to everyone this year, but remember no one, (not even me!) is safe from the Coaching Blunder of the Week.

I would have voted for Scott, but what do I know. I'm not in charge of the Blunder Award anymore.
