SAHRDAYA is a journal that introduces Christian artists to the general public and works for inculturation and assists to interpret the artist’s message which may help the viewer to make his own surprising discoveries. The artist’s life experience is made intelligible to people of different cultural traditions. There are so many different ways of seeing, thinking and living, that one has to communicate in a way that promotes understanding as well as acceptance. Fr Thamburaj combines several styles as a trained artist and tries several Indian symbols interpretatively to enrich Christian themes. Those who are familiar with the Hindu-Buddhist world of symbols will understand his message and perceive the nuances suggested, says the Editorial. Fr Thamburaj has this to say about himself: “My favourite artists are Van Gogh, Modigliani and Georges Rouault. When I was thumbing through the pages of Miserere series of Rouault I was inspired to paint my Madonna and Child series.”[]

Here in Madurai we have a Satsangh group composed of friends of different Faiths, gathering every week to speak about whatever unites us and praying together in forms that appeal to everyone or allowing each one freely to pray aloud as he wishes. Your paintings on the Net i find most of them suitable for our prayermeetings. We sit around and watch them and those who wish to express their thoughts are encouraged to do so. Thank you, Father, for your efforts. we pray to God to bless your work. we look forward to more and more of your paintings.
