Women's Lib
Recently, a local radio station has put up billboards all over town with a picture of a woman in her underclothes from the back. Next to her is the slogan "now turn us on", and the radio station's dial number. There's been alot in the opinion section about this lately. People talking about how it's disrespectful and offensive, and how it promotes the objectification of women.
First off, I'd like to say that I don't like the kind of music they play anyhow, so I wouldn't listen to the station, regardless of their add campeign.
Now, as to the objectification of women, I agree it does that. But that doesn't mean I have to buy it. Just because someone trys to imply that women are, or should be, a specific thing doesn't mean that I have to agree. I don't have to dress that way, look that way, talk that way, or be that way in any way shape or form to be a woman and to be proud of it. Nor does any other woman.
You don't have to buy those clothes, that makeup, those shoes...
You don't have to play dumb, like those things, turn your nose up at those things, or wear pink to be a Woman. None of those things have anything to do with womanhood. None of them count.
