The Pink Panther character was originally created by Friz Freleng and David DePatie, at the request of director Blake Edwards, for the opening credits of his 1964 comedy film "The Pink Panther", starring Peter Sellers and David Niven. The animation in the credits were so well received that by the end of 1964, the Pink Panther was starring in his own series of cartoon shorts. The surreality of the cartoons may confuse younger kids, but the smart, slinky Pink Panther appeals to young and old alike.

"The best multi-ball game ever", how's that for a boastful claim though? Without mentioning their competitors' more numerous and earlier efforts, Gottlieb had only previously produced 1 multi-ball game themselves. That was Force II and it only had 2-ball multi-ball, so the 3 of Pink Panther was for sure a 50% increase in the mumber of balls! Gottlieb also upped the solenoid voltage by just over 50%, from 24V to 38V for the first time. Of course, the marketing boys translated this technical fact into a more interesting claim of "twice the ball velocity". Anybody care to prove if that is true?

Ignoring the typical hyperbole of the flyer though, Pink Panther is a fun game to play and uses the theme nicely to create a game within a game, through the collection of diamonds. Pink Panther although not the most sought after game, is also not the easiest game to find, and particularly in good condition. Playfield wear is often a problem but worse is the flaking of the backglass, as the pink for some reason, seems to have suffered badly.
