  • Circus was the first of only 2 true wide-bodied Star Series 80 games (Star Race being the other), and it's also the only System 80 pin to feature Gottlieb's unique Roto-Target. This antiquated electromechanical device is one of the few key features of a sparsely equipped playfield. Circus is so simple it could easily pass for a System 1 game. The lack of features in the huge space gives the impression that the game could have been laid out on a standard-sized playfield format and then subsequently spread out across a widebody playfield as an afterthought.

What the widebody format of Circus did allow was a broad canvas on which Gordon Morison's unmistakeable artwork takes centre stage. There's a menagerie of exotic animals, a tentful of clowns and of course, an eyeful of Gordon Morison's unmistakeable pretty young girls with their own, erhmmm, Big Tops! Now I know why boys dream of running away with the Circus!
