The Hong Kong Football Club (above) hosted the Rugby Sevens from 1976 to 1981. It could hold up to 10,000 people, so when the number or supporters was too high for this small stadium to cope, the event was moved to the Hong Kong Stadium.
Up until 1992, the Rugby Sevens was held in the old Hong Kong Stadium (above).
One day after the 1992 Rugby Sevens, work began on the new Hong Kong Stadium, and the old one was demolished. In place, they built a HK$850 million stadium, capable of seating 40,000 people. In 1993, 34,000 fans sat in a roofless, seatless stadium (above).
By the 1994 event, the new Hong Kong Stadium (above) had been completely finished. Here are the layouts of the Hong Kong Stadium during the Rugby Sevens in 1997. After the 1999 event I will put up newer plans.
