obsessions, preoccupations, pasttimes

Obsessions are an odd thing. Once they take hold, you can't let go or escape but just wait out its crazy rollercoaster ride. After a while, they become preoccupations and pasttimes. You keep coming back to them over and over and get sucked in again!

 Disney

To me Disney possesses a magic that reminds me to feel young/youthful, imaginative, and dreaming of exciting possibilities. Sometimes it gives me exhilaration, especially when I'm feeling down about life. I can just watch a Disney movie or show and escape from reality into another world. The story would suck me in, and I would be absorbed in it while I watched. I loved the music the best since it made the movie even more memorable. I was taken from under the sea into the depths of the jungles to once upon a time in a land of fantasy and fairy tales. The first movie I saw in a movie theater was The Little Mermaid when I was six years old with my mom and younger brother (1989). I was just enthralled. It was my obsession then (not anymore, but I'm still fond of it). Right now, I don't really have a favorite, but I enjoy them all. Throughout my elementary school years, I watched the Disney Afternoon everyday after school. (One Saturday Morning, although enjoyable in its own right, does not and cannot compare!) I miss watching the cartoons now. It was part of my daily ritual (and another example that I've watched too much television). I've visited both Disneyland and Disney World a couple of times, but I really want to visit again and maybe get behind the scenes, become a castmember.

 NSYNC

NSYNC is just the best! I love their talent and harmony, and they seem like nice, friendly guys. Most importantly, they don't take themselves too seriously. They appreciate life, good music, and humour. I'm a fan from the beginning since they hit (actually came back) to the US and released "I Want You Back." It's still a great song with an awesome beat. I remember that I actually got to talk to them once on the radio (NY Z100) and saw them at Club XS. I enjoyed the concert but wished I took more photos and maybe even met them, but only in my wildest dreams. Aside from seeing them at Club XS mini-concert, I saw them twice in concert with my dad (Thank you, Daddy!). Their performances were, simply put, awesome! The energy and music was pure fun! :o) (The screaming I could do without, though!) NSYNC's talent shines best (when not dancing) in a cappella and new versions of their old songs. My favorite song of theirs is "This I Promise You," simply timeless and universal. "Girlfriend" and its hot remix come in second. I'm anxiously waiting for new songs now! :o)

 pop music

Yes, I admit that I like pop music. I like other genres of music as well, but pop is my favorite. Yes, it's lame fluff, but it's still fun, light-hearted, and carefree. I prefer the more "mature and substantial mainstream" over the sugary bubblegum, of course. They provide a little cheer and pick-me-up on a gloomy day, and the lyrics and melody are always catchy. They were a part of my teen and high school years. Nowadays, I'm in college, many of the groups I've liked are no longer together or at least on a break. I still like their musicit's just purely infectious! Here's an I miss you to them!
