Clybucca Ducklings

"N....e....i....l!", I was yelling as I clutched three squirming, cheeping ducklings and tried to manoeuver the mother duck out the gate with my foot, "N....e....i....l!".

The Chook Hilton was blasted clean with the high pressure water cleaner and I was replacing the "furniture". My hand was on the ducklings' food dish to move it when I noticed a big black snake curled up next to it fast asleep. The ducklings were in their yard so I tried to catch them but they ran straight back into their house and straight to their food dish. As I grabbed at them, they ran over the sleeping snake. I scooped them back into their yard with the dish but the commotion stirred up the snake and it took off in the opposite direction. But at least I managed to capture the ducklings and they were out of harms way. The snake obviously wasn't hungry but I object to it sleeping in the Chook Hilton.

Gladys Tending her Flock

The ducklings hatched in mid February, born to Gladys duck - father unknown but it could have been Demmy or Ike or Bruce. One duckling will have a patch of black feathers on its forehead as did Gladys but unfortunately the patch disappears with time.

Three New Ducklings

Ducklings are pure joy - so fascinating to watch. They quickly master pecking at the dispenser for water and as soon as a swimming pool appears they are into it.
