Sonnet for the Absent Valentine

O!, Valentine, sweet and forgotten,
where hast thou disappeared to?
And why do I still wish to remember you?
No roses or letters have I gotten.

My departure caused us both to sadden,
yet it made me realize what's true.
Even knowing of my love for you,
you've silenced your feelings and caused me to madden.

And so, this fury that grows in my soul,
this madness which causes me to curse at the moon
as my lonely heart shivers in the night black as coal,

comes not from this Valentine's Day that I shall pass in gloom,
but from knowing that this love, once my heart's only goal,
tomorrow in some murderous rage shall face certain doom.
