A strong storm hit
Aregai Harbor and the Ponente Ligure on November 6th, 2000.

SUNDAY
November 5th.
The sky is going
to became dark and a small rain falling down from the afternoon.
The Sanremo meteo
forecast has alerted everybody with his bulletin.
MONDAY
November 6th.
It was raining all
the night stronger and stronger. In the morning the wind start to be
important
but not dangerous yet.
At 11:30 the wind
was stronger from SW direction. The tendency was to turn through South.
At 13:00 the gusts
were up to 45 kn. and the sea was able to overpass the dam.
At 14:00 the first
60kn wind gusts were arriving.
The storm was two
hours long and destroys 60% of the ships placed on the dam 30% in a
serious
way.
Three
cars parked
on the dam down way were shifted down the sea.
Several ship break
the mooring cleats or the cables and start to go alone in the harbor
channel.
Other ship crash
one to the other.
The sea level into
the harbor grow in few minutes 65 cm due to wind direction and water
entering
up of dam.
The dam collapsed
in two areas, the main one is 15 meters long and big stones of 2 ton
were
lost down the sea.
Several ships on
the other quays crash on the quay reporting damage on the stern.
No people were offended
or injured.
We have to thanks the sailor man of the harbor for their support to limit the damages.
Sanremo Harbor has 200 meters of dam destroyed and three ship sanked.
San Bartolomeo, 20km far from Aregai, has lost totally his dam and reported serious damage on the floating quay --> sanbart.rm Video!
