Well, won't this be fun! Me, the LotR obsessed one, writing a movie review for it... Here goes nothing;
Let's start with the director, Peter Jackson. First off, he did a really good job at making this movie, and keeping it as close to the book as would allow. Though, I am upset that they cut out Tom Bombadil. I felt that Tom played a big part in teh books. But I'm just going to have to live. Now, as for how much they cut out, I think about 1/3 to 1/2 of the book was left out. Therefore, instead of a movie that was 3 hours long, we would have had one that was 6 hours long. So yay for PJ!
And onto the author of this book: John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. Personally, I think that is he were alive to see this movie trilogy, he'd love it. He'd have to. It has been very well done, with scenery very close to what Middle Earth was intended to look like, and the characters were presque parfait. Unlike the animation, which made Tolkien turn in his grave, this movie does he book justice.
Moving onto the actors. I'll try to do a little something on all of the major actors/actresses.
Let's start with Elijah Wood, shall we? First off, I think he did a really good job of acting out the character of Frodo Baggins. Second off, I think he's really hot, though that kind of made Frodo seem way more cute and cuddly then Tolkien probably intended in the books. But that's ok! I think Elijah did a very good job of acting out a character/personality for Frodo, and his mind being slowly taken over by the One Ring, etc. All in all, a very good job!
Moving on to Frodo's trusty 'sidekick', Sam. Actor Sean Astin did a very good job of portraying Samwise, Frodo's best friend and gardener. I thought that Sean did a good job of acting out Sam ('the Brave'), and should be recognised for his efforts. (As should all the people who took part in this movie. I just needed something else to say for that sentence.)
Everyone loved Billy Boyd as Pippin in Lord of the Rings. He was the funny, clueless hobbit that always looked on the brighter side of things. Billy Boyd did very well playing Pippin, and I'm sure he had a lot of fun doing it too.
And where would Pippin be without Merry? Dominic Monaghan, who plays Pippin, had about as much fun as Billy in this acting job. The two got really close over the 2 year period of filming, and I think he did a really good job. (Sorry these are so short, but I can't write anymore... You try writing a movie review! It's hard...)
Sir Ian McKellen did a good job of playing Gandalf, the old and wise wizard of Middle Earth. His preformance in the second movie was fabulous!
Viggo Mortensen played Aragorn very well. The part is very physical, and Viggo was, I think, the right actor for the job. He insisted on doing all of his own stunts, and did very well. (Not to mention his manly ruggedness! Yummy!)
Sean Bean played my least favorite character, Boromir. I don't know why, I just didn't like Boromir in the books. But Sean did a very good job of acting, and it's unfortunate that he only got to act for the first movie.
And last, but not least (far from least) is Orlando Bloom. (Don't worry, I'll try to keep it short.) I think Orlando did a very good job acting Legolas, as I'm sure almost everyone will say. All in all, he did a very good job of acting out the part of an elf and the 'warrior' of the Fellowship.
I'd like to end this movie review saying this; "The movie was very well done, past the standards the book-lovers had, and everyone did an exceptionally good job. I'd also like to say that Andy Serkis (Gollum) should be recognised for his 'acting' as Gollum, and he did a very good job."
Thank you, and good night!
