Youth Ministry Committee,
Meeting Minutes
May 2, 2007
Present: Jay Carradine, Marla
Cartwright, Shandi Davis, Joel Hays, Kari Laehr, Brandon Lewis, Susan Pierce, Lisa Rosenberg
SENIOR DINNER: Liz is planning to serve about 100
people. She will prepare chicken
casserole and dessert, and serve it buffet style. People who will help her prepare the dinner
should arrive at 4:00 pm. Shandi will decorate
the presentation area (in front of double doors to preschool area) with
balloons in school colors. Lisa, Marla
and Susan will decorate the tables, which will be arranged in separate squares
with green tablecloths. The decorations
will include cardboard “roadways” on which attendees may write personal
messages to the graduates. Decorating
will begin at 4 pm, and the dinner
begins at 5:30
pm. Shannon Drawe and
Brandon finished the slide show. Brandon would like YMC to formally thank Shannon with a gift. Steve Plunkett will
not be able to attend the dinner, so he has created a short videotape to be
played during the presentation. Rhonda
Thomas has agreed to emcee the presentation which will include the Steve’s message,
the slide show, introduction of the graduates with a chance for each of them to
talk about their plans, and the giving of gifts from St. Andrew. Jay will ask Nathan if he might be able to
provide some kind of musical entertainment.
Seniors expected to attend the dinner are Ellysia
Dierker, Brett Forester, Julya
Noah, Will Patterson, Tess Rentschlar,
Jason Replogle, Michael Ross, and Devin Servis. Ryan Brown
will be out of town (though his photos are included in the slide show). Jaimie and Jessica Welborn have been attending First Presbyterian.
COMMITTEE NIGHT DINNER: YMC has agreed to provide dinner for the June
12 Committee Night. We will order pizza. Marla will bring tea. Other YMC members are asked to bring soda,
cookies or other food.
MEAT FEST: A postcard will be sent this week to all
church members announcing the BBQ Fundraiser to be held May 20 after
worship. The dinner will be held on the
front church lawn, and guests, neighbors, and passers-by will be welcome. By May 11, Kari is ordering 250 St. Andrew
t-shirts of various sizes (about $6 each) to be sold at the BBQ for $10 each. She will make a sign advertising this low
price for “today only.” Kari will also
make directional signs to be posted just before the dinner. Karen Raabe has
agreed to coordinate a bake sale, and Hillary Lewis has offered to paint
faces. Jay, Jay Thomas, and Joe Fritz
will smoke briskets and cook sausage.
Marla will provide an extra smoker, and will check with John on the
possibility of a discount on the meat purchase.
Jay estimates that we will need about 10 briskets to feed about 175
people. They will start cooking in the
church parking lot at about 10 pm, May 19. Brandon will ask Liz to order coleslaw, potato salad, canned
ranch beans, and white bread for 175 people.
Drinks will be iced tea and water.
We will heat the beans in the kitchen.
We will need hefty disposable plates, BBQ sauce, lemons, jalapenos, trash
cans, and chafing dishes for the meat. Except
for the baked goods, the food will be free, and a bucket will be manned by
youth for donations.
YMC will meet again on May 8
at 6 pm.
