I am writing in regard to the editorial about the upcoming Stanek-Kosel race for representative of the 81st District.

Although I am confident Jill Stanek will be more than a "one-issue candidate," I can think of no greater cornerstone to anchor one's campaign than the issue of life. I would much rather be represented by a person who had demonstrated the moral tenacity to stand for the rights of the unborn and the protection of innocent lives as Stanek did at Christ Hospital, rather than be represented by Kosel, who says she is "flexible" on the subject of life.

If life is devalued prior to birth, then what can we expect from a representative when they are asked to work to defend the rights of children in our schools?

Can we now assume, based on Kosel's vote in favor of the Freedom of Choice Act in 1997 that the her values regarding life in general are subject to opinion polls and political correctness?

Kosel in fact is a member of the Christ Hospital Governing Council and yet to date, in my view, there is no record that she has used her influence to try to overturn the hospital's policy of aborting handicapped children.

Kosel continues her disrespect for life by coming by testifying against the Born-Alive bills last spring. These bills attempted to halt Illinois hospitals' (including Christ Hospital's) practice of what I say is nothing else but infanticide. It is clear to the public that she does not value life at either end of the spectrum.

Maybe this appears to The Star as a simple one-issue race because the issues are of life and death. My vote is for life!
