Dark day for the state
Thursday, May 31, 2001
May 10 was a dark day for the state of Illinois and for humanity in
general, when legislators in the Illinois House Judiciary I
Committee wouldn't even let a package of bills out of its
committee — bills that simply confirm that we are human beings at
birth with full rights to equal protection as American citizens under
law.
A woman's right to abort has become such a sacred cow that
even
when the product of abortion leaves the uterus alive, the woman
and her complicit doctor can still mandate that product, now a
baby, dead.
In effect, the Dred Scott case upholding slavery has been
reincarnated. Here, 150 years later, certain human beings are not
considered human after all, but property to be disposed of if
unwanted.
State Sen. Patrick O'Malley, R-Palos Park, and state Rep. Jim
Brosnahan, D-Evergreen Park, are to be honored for sponsoring
and co-sponsoring the born-alive bills in the very suburban
community where it was first exposed that babies are aborted alive
and left to die.
One can only hope the Judiciary Committee's vote will be
reconsidered and that justice and mercy may yet emerge.
