"Advocate Systems Continue 'Live Birth' Abortions"
Oak Lawn, IL - Advocate Health Care Systems is facing a public relations
crisis by the media attention paid to the practice of "live birth" abortions
at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL and Lutheran General Hospital in Park
Ridge. In defense of the negative opinions in the community, there has been
an onslaught of positive articles in newspapers and television on the
wonderful care Christ Hospital offers to newborns.
In December, an Oak Forest, IL family raved about the tremendous work of
Christ Hospital in delivering and caring for their new quadruplets. The
article focused on the tremendous care of mothers in high risk pregnancies.
And as "fate" would have it, Christ Hospital was the home to the first
Chicago baby born in 2000. Staff of the labor and delivery department was
interviewed during the New Year's extravaganzas on local television stations.
In early January, a television news program focused on a birthday party being
held for a one year old little boy who was born at Christ Hospital, weighing
only 14 oz. when he was born a year before. Photos of the tiny little
newborn were televised, and the mother of the little boy raved about the
tremendous work of Christ Hospital.
While no one would challenge the validity of the wonderful work of the
hospital in these cases, it was apparent that the hospital public relations'
department was going to unusual lengths to identify Christ Hospital with
good, life-preserving situations.
An informed observer would also note that while the hospital goes to extreme
lengths to preserve these little lives, they are lives that are
discriminately chosen. No mention was made in the reports of the babies who
are selected to be delivered and allowed to die because they have Down's
Syndrome or some other congenital defect. The practice continues.
Pro-life activists will be holding a prayer vigil beginning at the Green Oak
Reformed Church, 10100 S. 52nd Ave. in Oak Lawn at 9:30 a.m. on the Roe vs.
Wade memorial, January 22. The vigil will move to Christ Hospital at 10:15
a.m. Plan to attend.
