| Akiko has made an out of court settlement with the bus company....
Well after giving up on the first part of the saga of recovering Akiko's
bag which fell from the Transnasional bus; we had to move to phase 2
getting compensation out of the company. Unfortunately MCs office did
nothing so it was up to us. First I contacted the bus company office
and they just said we offered you 300R from the insurance. Then I
faxed the bus company boss.. and when I got hold of him eventually
same answer we offered you 300. So I had to send a sterner fax
explaining 1. That it's not upto their insurance company to set arbitary amounts in negligence claims agains bus company incompetence. As in law you are responsible for whatever luggage you have taken care of... to a reasonable amount. 2. That since the bus company insurance is paid for by the passengers you are telling the passengers to pay for bus company mistakes and the bus company pay nothing. I also faxed this to the head of Nadicorp the holding company, adding the legal limit of reply of 7 days. 9 days after that .."well he's not back from Korea etc", I finally got a response from the company legal top man. First he tried the 300R trick. But then he said "well how much do you want" I said 4700R and he offered 2500R a day later they offered 2800R (which they got by adding the 300 insurance to the 2500) They might have gone further but I wasn't sure what to do so I decided to accept the 2800 now. It turns out that the bus company was government owned before being bought by the holding company so probably didn't have the same customer service ethic. (Hopefully now things are changing). Then a couple of days farting around till they got the cheque signed. Then today we went to the office got the cheque signed the release letter. Popped by M Chongs office for another photo etc. To the bank ..bank computer down, lunch back to the bank, queue, cash, queue change to travellers cheques |
FINALLY DONE Aki will travel to East coast then Singapore then OZ a half happy ending cos tho she bought new clothes, backpack and
England donated free glasses (thanks to MC) she'd still rather have her
original stuff, photos and presents.
"your name is on all your stuff ? isn't it ?"
Saturday - met Cki Keong in Times Square, bookstore then we all went with Rudra to Little India Nightmarket Sun - computer stuff - Then we went to the Cosmo World amusement park (he thought we were going to see a movie). The roller coaster was great and the bumper cars good, but we made the mistake of going on the DNA mixer, which twisted and flung us so much I didn't enjoy the other rides. Akiko was excited about the bonfire advertised at the square. When we got there it was a big trade union rally with speeeches, traditional singing then a performace by a heavy metal group called "Bonfire" ! coming events film on Saturday The Big Durian - which was cancelled cos of politics I've go to leave within 3 weeks. I was thinking of coming back overland via the silk road, but the countries aren't stable at the moment. Then I worked out that I can fly to Mongolia then to Siberia by bus and then I can take the road to Moscow. Malaysia friends have been in Russia and say the visa isn't too difficult. |
