Perdida
June 1992 - April, 1997
Beloved pet and friend

I was just getting into the car to leave my grandmother's when this lady walked up to us. She was holding a baby kitten. She claimed that she had fetched the little thing out of the sewers along with her three brothers and sisters. The others had homes, all except this one. And she asked if we wanted it.

I begged my mother and she relented. We said we would take the cat and Perdy was handed over to us. We turned back to thank the lady but she was gone. No where in sight.

We arrived at the house later then usual. I took Perdy inside and sat her down in the kitchen to get her some food. While she was eating we went back to the back part of the house.

The place was trashed. Someone had been there recently. When the police arrived and they did their investigation they guessed that it was 30 minutes prior to our arrival.

Perdy delayed us just long enough. If the lady hadn't come along who knows what we would have walked into.

Perdy was a little angel. She loved to be held. She was a little per box too. If you touched her she would make this noise like ppurrumph. Something between a meow and a purr. She also liked to drink from the faucet and take rides with me on the float in the pool.

A few months after we got Perdy we noticed something growing on her rear end. We took her to the vet and got the worst news possible.

I was born three months to early

The doctor gave me thirty days

But I had my mama's will

And God's amazing grace

She had a never before seen cancer. The vet said it was probably due to whatever was in the sewers.

They operated but couldn't get it all. The lump grew back. They gave her five months.

I guess I'll keep on living..

She survived 5 years. And was the happiest little thing.

The baby girl without a chance

A victim of circumstance

The one who oughta give up but she's just

Too hard headed...

She was our miracle kitty. She hung in there with us for five years and we loved her.

With gentled hands (or paws) and the heart of a fighter

I'm a survivor.

And perdy was. She beat the odds and had a wonderful kitty life.

Because of someone's cruelty, Perdy is no longer with us. I wish that the person who had dumped those babies into the sewer had been caught and persicuted.

There is no excuse for animal cruelty.
