A New Year Ahead

It seems to me that it is almost impossible not to wonder what this new year will bring into my life… What joys does it hold in store? What friends are yet unmet? What undreamed-of endeavors will I attempt this year?

On the other hand...what sorrows will come my way this year? Will someone choose to be my enemy rather than my friend? Are there other difficult or negative experiences awaiting me in the coming months?

We wonder and we hope, dream, anticipate, or perhaps dread or fear, but not one of us knows with certainty what lies ahead. We can only know each day’s experience as it unfolds.

Well, since we cannot know what this year will bring to our lives, whether good or ill, how can we handle the unknown successfully? Here are some thoughts that might help us with any situation we find ourselves in this year:

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30).

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13).

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
