Parables in Matthew 13 of the Kingdom

 

Introduction

·        Parable: literally defined as “similitude”, meaning the same or something similar

·       Verses 1 & 2 “set the stage” for the preaching Jesus is about to do

·       Purpose of Jesus’ speaking in parables – verses 10-17

I.       Parable of the Sower (would be better described as “Parable of the Souls) Verses 3-9, 18-23 – speaks about the HEARTS OF MEN

II.    Parable of the Tares  Verses 24-30, 36-43 – speaks of the SEPARATION OF EVIL FROM AMONG THE GOOD IN THE CHURCH (KINGDOM) AT THE JUDGEMENT – 1 Timothy 5:24

III.  Parable of the Mustard Seed & Parable of the Leaven Verses 31-33 – speaks of the GREATNESS (POWER) & INFLUENCE OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD Leaven = yeast, baking powder, baking soda, etc.

IV.Parable of the Hidden Treasure & Parable of the Pearl of Great Price Verses 44-45 – speaks of the JOY OF THE FINDER Verse 46 – speaks of the COST OF THE KINGDOM  “all” = blood of Jesus Christ “all” = all we are and have

V.   Parable of the Dragnet/Fish Net Verses 47-50
