Who Are We?
WHO ARE WE?
The only way to really find out who we are is to listen to what we say about ourselves and see if we are telling the truth about ourselves.
We are Christians, disciples (followers) of Christ, the church of Christ, the church of God.
Because we belong to Jesus Christ, we wear His name and no other name (Acts 11:26; Ephesians 5:1-2; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 16:16). After all, it is Christ who saves us and our heavenly Father and Christ whom we glorify (1 Corinthians 6:20; 2 Thessalonians 1:12).
We are forgiven sinners, saved people.
Like all people, we have sinned (Romans 3:23) and our sins separated us from God (Isaiah 59:2; Ezekiel 18:20). Unlike many people, however, who choose to continue living sinful lives, we have chosen to commit ourselves to Christ and receive His forgiveness, His salvation (Colossians 1:13-14; Luke 19:10).
Our forgiveness, our salvation, was obtained through the love and grace of God (John 3:16; Ephesians 1:7). This grace came through our faith in Him (Ephesians 2:8-9), not a faith such as the devils have (James 2:19), not a dead faith, but a living faith which compelled us to feel godly sorrow which brought about repentance [a change of mind about living sinfully], confession of our faith in Christ (Romans 10:8-10), and baptism into Jesus Christ (Romans 6:1-7; Acts 22:16). Thus, we are saved by the blood of the Lamb!
We are transformed people.
Though once we lived worldly sin-filled lives, we no longer run with them [sinners] in the same flood of dissipation (1 Peter 4:3-4). We have forsaken the works of the flesh and live now in the Spirit of God, striving to grow in God's grace and knowledge and to show the fruit of the Spirit in our lives (Galatians 5:16-25; 2 Peter 3:17-18). When we sin, we humbly and penitently seek God's forgiveness, as children of God coming to a loving Father (1 John 1:9-2:1).
We are heirs of eternal life.
