Starfleet History

Personal History:

Derek Stormwind was born on board the vessel T�PRING in transit between EARTH and VULCAN. Though a half-breed the original stigma that was attached, was no longer a factor on VULCAN. His schooling in the Vulcan way of logic was tempered by his mothers teaching of her Native American ways and culture. So though skilled in Vulcan logic his belief in the old ways often causes conflict. Especially his belief in a spirit guide his being a hunting falcon of Earth Origins. At the age of 30 he entered Starfleet Academy. Upon graduation his 1st assignment was Starbase 514 as a refresher instructor in Starship manoeuvring. During this assignment he discovered a joy of single ship flight, and was often found doing strange manoeuvres on the flight training course. This caused a problem with his superiors.

His transfer to Starbase 4 was do to his continued use of uncertified manoeuvres, and disregard for single ship flight safety protocols. With only 6 months of duty at Starbase 4 he left Starfleet.

Returning to VULCAN he combined his studies of early flight with Vulcan technology, designing flight controls that allowed for manoeuvres in atmosphere flight much like the aircraft of the 20th Century. He also applied them to theoretic starship manoeuvres, and to his own personal single man Scout ship.

The acrimonious battle between father and son over his leaving of Starfleet finally ended when at the age of 65 he returned to Starfleet at the insistence of his father and assistance of certain members of the Vulcan government. His return to Starfleet was not as expected. Starfleet placed him on a probationary status until he "proved" his willingness to abide by Starfleet rules and regulations thus his promotions have been delayed more so than others who graduated the Academy in the year of his return.

Now back in Starfleet he knows he must as much as possible tow the line and make good. As most importantly to him it is his mothers wish.

His only regret is that his modified scout craft has had to be placed into storage as it does not conform to Starfleet standards.
