Wonder Of Life
~***~
Mother Earth awoke from under her cape of ice. She felt it as the flowers, trees and animals came alive inside
her. Also her human children woke from their Winter-slumber, and the old Mother sighed as she felt the power of new life once again flow through her, regaining its strength.
Spring was here.

Bare feet ran through the grass and mud, leaving a trail on their way. The all-seeing eyes smiled as the old
Mother recognised one of her young children. Tall and lean he was, his long legs flying across her body like
one of the graceful gazelles.
The young man stumbled as the Earth moved under his feet, and within seconds he was laying flat on his back, starring at the sky. She just admired him for a moment. He was something special, she knew, had been from the day he was born. Her partner the Sun had blessed the young man’s body with his kiss, and the golden locks of hair seemed to reflect the shinning beams every time he moved.
"Hello my child," Mother Earth whispered, her voice nothing more than a breeze blowing through the dying
leaves. But she knew he had heard her.
"Hello sweet Mother." He stood up, his eyes not looking anywhere in particular. Green they were, a burning
emerald green, which showed the kinship he shared with many of the felines who also walked this Earth. He
lowered his eyes then, and slowly formed a triangle by pressing two fingertips together; this was a sign of love and respect. A sign of the holy life-giving Mother.
She ignored his humble greeting. All living beings were her children and she loved them all equally; there were no need for gestures of respect or the sacrifices some of them gave to show their gratitude. "Your pleasure is Her enjoyment" it said in one of the old ritual songs, she wished more people would understand…
"So where are your legs taking you?" she questioned, and the young man’s face was transformed into a picture of pure happiness, his full lips curling into a smile so breath-taking that the old Mother couldn’t help but feel a little proud. "To the creek," he answered, pointing with a slender finger down the way he was going to take.
One of her eyes found the small steam of water, which pooled at the place where her navel should be. She
already had a vague idea of why the tall blond was taking this path and, as so many times before, she was
right.
In the grass by the water sat one of her other human children. A young man like the blonde, but only in age
they were alike, otherwise they seemed as different as night and day. The one by the creek looked up from
under a curtain of raven-black locks, revealing a face so beautiful it was almost unreal. Mother Earth smiled as she saw the pale touch of her daughter the Moon adorning his skin. also he was blessed.
Eyes, like dying stars glowed as he watched the tall blond come towards him. Full rosy lips parted and a sound came out. She sighed. She remembered that sound from the day he was born; from the moment he opened his mouth to breathe, to scream, to let everyone know of his arrival.
She knew that the tall blond couldn’t make a sound like that, at least not with his voice, but his fingers could. They could create a sound that made trees and stones sing, just by touching them with the palms of his hands, and together the sounds matched perfectly; they were complete.
It was the sounds of life, of happiness, of love…
Mother Earth watched as the two men embraced. She smiled at her children’s happiness. For a while she just
listening to the sweet sound coming from one of the young men’s lips, and she watched the other as he
created a matching rhythm by slapping his palms against his own bare thighs.
Time passed and some new sounds took over. The old Mother smiled; these were the sounds she knew best and also the ones she enjoyed the most. Once more her eyes found the creek, and there, in the grass lay her children, their naked bodies entwined as they gave her the gift of their joined pleasure.
Maybe these men were not able to give new life, but they blessed the Earth with their love and happiness.
"Why should I ask for more?" The old Mother closed her eyes and felt the flowers bloom.
And the Earth was once more at peace.
THE END
