Vietnam -
A French protectorates were established in Cochin-China, 1867 and in Annam and Tongking in 1884. The French Indo-Chinese Union with Cambodia and Laos was established in 1887. Vietnam was occupied by the Japanese during World War II. The communist Viet-Minh League under Ho Chi Minh was formed after World War II and the Indo-Chinese war of 1946 to 1954 resulted in the French withdrawal. A 1954 armistice divided the country between the communist Vietnamese People's Republic and South Vietnam. A civil war led to the United States intervention on the part of South Vietnam. Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam fell in 1975 and the country was reunified as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 1976.

Indochina (Indo-chine) was under French control from 1889-1945, area consisting of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. All the postage stamps used in Indochina were issues of French stamps with "INDOCHINE" imprint. There was only one souvenir sheet issued in Indochina, Colonial Arts Exhibition Issue on April 15, 1937. Indochina stamps are relative cheaper than other Asian countries' stamps. I believe Indochina will be a hot collecting area with in two years.

Encyclopedia.com - Yugoslavia (History)
"Yugoslavia's existence as a nation began after World War I. Of its component republics, only Serbia (which included the present independent republic of Macedonia) and Montenegro were independent states in 1914..By 1944 the Germans had been driven from Yugoslavia, and in 1945 Tito became premier, deposed the king, and established a Communist state ... In 1990 the Communist party relinquished its monopoly on political power. Previously contained ethnic tensions became more prominent, and Slovenia and Croatia declared (1991) independence, a move resisted by Serbia ... (this) escalated into civil war (1991-92). Bosnia and Hercegovina (1991) and Macedonia (1992) also became independent, and intense fighting erupted (1992) in Bosnia. The UN imposed economic sanctions, including a naval blockade, on Yugoslavia for supporting Serb forces in Bosnia and withheld recognition of the new Yugoslav state established by Serbia and Montenegro.
.
(the U.S. does not recognize the name 'Yougoslavia' - see 'Serbia')

On 21 May 2006, the Montenegrin independence referendum was held, and . . . The state union effectively came to an end after Montenegro's formal declaration of independence on 3 June 2006, and Serbia's formal declaration of independence on 5 June. After the dissolution, Serbia became the legal successor of the union, while Montenegro re-applied for membership in international organizations." (Wikipedia)
