British Indian Ocean Territory was established 8 November 1965. It consists of Chagos Archipelago, Aldabra, Farquhar and Des Roches Islands until 23 June 1976 when Aldabra, Farquhar and Des Roches were returned to Seychelles. Postage stamps have been issued for British Indian Ocean Territory since 17 January 1968
