Introduction Richard C. Witt was a lifelong stamp collector. At one time he served as President of the Pittsburgh Philatelic Society and later as a volunteer curator of the Carnegie Museum Stamp and Postal History Collection. He had extensive knowledge of philately and a broad variety of collecting interests. However, Dick's favorites were his cinderellas, the stamps that are not listed in the regular stamp catalogues. His dream was to compile a cinderella encyclopedia, a project which he pursued until the time of his death in 2002. His writings and papers were contributed to the collection of the American Philatelic Research Library where they can be used by others pursuing similar interests. | |
Rigastamps had the
pleasure and privilege of handling the sale of much of Dick's cinderella
collection. During that process we were able to scan many
items prior to their sale. While a few of the scans show individual
stamps, most of the images linked at the left are pictures of full pages
taken directly from Dick's collection, complete with his original
writeups. Although the collection itself has been been broken up and sold
to many individuals, we are pleased to display here the hundreds of images
that were retained in our files. We hope that they will serve as a useful
reference tool to cinderella collectors and as a fitting tribute to the
man whose collection they
depict.
