This item is a block of four faux
postage stamps of Wild Bill Hickok (James Butler Hickok,
1837-1876). The artistamp was designed by
W.C. "Bill" Porter
and printed and perforated by the Olathe Poste (Olathe,
Colorado). Famous for his gunfighting and scouting skills,
Wild Bill was also an abolitionist, lawman, professional
gambler, and facilitator of the underground railroad. He
fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. Hickok was shot
to death while playing poker in a Dakota Territory
saloon.
The actual size of this block of four
artistamps is 51.5mm x 66mm (2.03" x
