Americana

AMERICANA - SERIES #1

As the son of the Motherland/Fatherland, I sometimes get embarrassed by the behavior of my parents. I'm sure that that is a universal feeling. But like all good parents, my Motherland/Fatherland has protected me and in a non-political way, has shown me how pleasant live can be.

I grew up the typical American kid. while there were social problems at home and wars being fought in other parts of the world, I was free to address these problems or not to. I was asked little from my Motherland/Fatherland. When I was growing up in the 60s, one of the more turbulent times in recent American history, freedom was still not denied to me. I could go to the bowling lanes any time, day or night, to meet other kids my own age. I could get in mhy car and take my best girl to the drive-in movies. Then I might go to the open-all-night carhop, just to hang out with friends. We didn't need to explain what we were doing or why we were doing it. We just needed gas in the car. That sense of freedom, to come and go in my own leisure, is still with me and most Americans today. Little is asked of me and much is given.

Other Motherland/Fatherlands might look at my attitude and think I am a spoiled child. A wise old man once told me, "...if you know God - you know how to behave." I just call it freedom and I have no guilt about it.
