grip-2.95-1+lame3.70 (CD Ripper+MP3 Encode)

Grip is a gtk-based cd-player and cd-ripper. It has the ripping capabilities of cdparanoia builtin, but can also use external rippers (such as cdda2wav). It also provides an automated frontend for MP3 encoders, letting you take a disc and transform it easily straight into MP3s. The CDDB protocol is supported for retrieving track information from disc database servers. Grip works with DigitalDJ to provide a unified "computerized" version of your music collection. GCD is the cd-player only version of Grip.

Installation

• Grip Installation
• Download grip-2.95-1.i386.rpm from the Internet and install

  # rpm -ihv grip-2.95-1.i386.rpm

• Download lame3.70.tar.gz from http://www.sulaco.org/mp3 and compile

  # cp lame3.70.tar.gz /usr/local/src # tar zxvf lame3.70.tar.gz # cd lame3.70 # make

• Run grip

  # grip &

  Configure MP3 Setting

• Open [Config] -> [MP3] -> [Encoder] tab

   

• Select Encoder to [lame].

   

• Change EMP executable to lame path. ex [/usr/local/src/lame3.70/lame]

   

• Change MP3 file format. ex [~/mp3/%a/%d/%a-%d-%t-%n.mp3]
  

   

  Rip file format

  %n	Name of track being ripped
  %t	Number of track being ripped
  %a	Artist of current track
  %A	Artist of the current disc
  %d	Name of current disc
  %b	Begin sector to be ripped (0 is start of track)
  %e	End sector of track
  %c	cdrom device
  %i	CDDB discid in hex format
  %g	ID3 genre tag as a number
  %G	ID3 genre tag as a word

  Adding a '*' between the '%' and the switch will cause underscoring of the field to be skipped. 

  Configure Proxy Setting

• Open [Config] -> [proxy]

   

• Check [Use proxy server]

   

• Type [Proxy server] and [Proxy port]

  

   

  Rip+Encode

• Open [Tracks] tab and select songs by right click
  

   

• Open [Rip] tab and click [Rip+Encode]
