To God be the Glory

If I have come to Jesus Christ,

Tis He Who was my Way;

If I have opened up my eyes,

Tis He Who is the Day.

My thanks to God for every gain,

The seed, the bread, the loam;

Tis He Who sends the living rain,

To bring the harvest home.

So, never think that what I did

Was ever deed of mine;

He lives in me, His glory hid

As honey tastes the wine.

Only when I will be poor

And set my pains at nought,

Will Jesus enter through my door

And claim what He has bought.

So do not offer me a crown,

Or make my virtues more;

But only that I cast it down

The Holy Lamb before.
