The Treasure

Don't waste love by loving much
And falling short and fast;
Oh, save the words “I love you”
For the One you love the last.
Until the day you find it,
And it makes your heart take wing,
Don't waste your looks and kisses
On any lesser thing.
For love's a treasure hidden,
Search for it everywhere-
But it will spring unbidden
And take you unaware.
So don't let love go past
By searching high and low;
So large, so deep, so vast-
Be still, be still, and KNOW.
And those loves you come to find?
Lay them all upon the shelf.
No one will ever love you kind
So much as Love Itself.
Why did I save so much of love,
And not spend it full and free?
The wall is breached- the dam is burst-
I was saving it for THEE.
