The Lord of the Dance

Do you remember the Lord of the Dance? I refer to the musical dance spectacular that we all went
to see on the stage, just so that we could say we saw it. Do you remember?

Perhaps that was just a show, but all the intelligentsia drew the comparison with the Dance of
Shiva, that somehow expresses the resolution of creation and destruction. {I remember reading
that this ancient idea is actually consistent with modern Quantum Physics.} Myself, I find all that
irrelevant, and I didn't bother mastering it. Profound truths never impress me as much as obvious
ones.

I have seen for myself how! And the Lord of the Dance really dances, and the more I see it, the more I
applaud Him. Have you ever seen a baby take its first steps in life? What courage! What faith! What a
fantastic miracle! A real Lord of the real Dance! And similarly, when a person has to hobble, or go on
crutches, or take diminishing medications, or go through life with a club foot, or aids, or
schizophrenia, or obesity, and nevertheless finds faith to navigate over life's tempestuous sea.

The staged performance was only a skill of clever dancing, with too much glory for too small an
achievement. But the person who has been diagnosed and treated as psychotic all his life, and who
suddenly gets up out of his drug-induced catatonia, and goes out to buy a chook, and cooks it for
himself and his friends, and begins to keep his house clean, and really love his little garden, and lets
his cat out at night for a great big howling cat fight...Oh, yes...I think I will go dancing myself
tonight!

Beam me up, Scotty! You were wonderful, Dr Spock!
