The Light of the World
The Light of the World
I sat beside my window
In the morning of the day;
I saw the light come in the sky,
I raised my heart to pray:
Last night I lay a-weeping
Upon my bed of pain;
But then, You sent the morning light
To raise me up again.
My tears may fall in darkness,
But morning always nears,
To make the shadows flee away,
And all as new appears.
Each day's a new horizon
Of God's immortal word;
And as the sun arising
Faithful is the Lord!
We make a blest tomorrow
When life's portion we employ:
A mystery of suffering,
A mystery of joy.
Give me the grace to see, dear Lord,
Your Face beyond my ken:
When I'm weeping in the darkness,
Your closeness to me then!
